Yoga for Seniors

More and more seniors are participating in the practice of yoga and meditation for the many health benefits it offers.

The practice of yoga is especially good for seniors.  It is much easier on the body than many other fitness activities, such as high-impact aerobics.  Also, unlike other forms of exercise, yoga addresses all aspects of one’s health and well-being.  Breathing exercises can help with respiratory conditions, clarity of mind and the flow of oxygen throughout the body.   As we age, our body gets less movement and we become sedentary.  The body is meant for movement to keep our muscles strong, our blood circulating and our minds alert.

For Facility Wellness and Fitness Directors:

A man is born gentle and weak

At his death he becomes hard and stiff

All things including the grass and the trees are soft and pliable in life

And are dry and brittle in death

Stiffness is a companion in death

Flexibility is a companion in life
