Detoxing - What's Your Reason for Cleansing?

A few weeks ago I embarked upon a 10 day detox cleanse. It apparently was broadcasted on the radio and every other woman in the checkout line seemed to be doing it based on what was in their cart. It was a Green Smoothie cleanse and you drank smoothies consisting of an array of fruits and green vegetables as your three meals for ten days straight. I admit, it was a little challenging the first few days, but by day three, I had it down to a science. Now my goal was to shed a few pounds (actually more than a few). However, as I began to realize the many benefits the cleanse offered, like better focus, more energy and easier elimination (sorry but you know that's important) I was so happy I did it. But my cleansing partner's experience wasn't so great. She became ill halfway through the cleanse and had to give her body more than liquids.

That is why it is important to know your body and what it needs. Just because everybody seems to be doing some trendy health thing, like a detox...research it and know if your body is ready for the "shock" of not getting enough food. I did lose about 10 lbs. but more than that, I lost my old eating habits. I learned I can eat much smaller portions and there are certain foods that I just don't need to eat period! I'm not going to promote this particular cleanse or any other because we are all different and what works for one may not work for the other. My advice would be if you begin to feel bad while on whichever cleanse you decide to do, make adjustments or just discontinue it all together. Always listen to your body!
