Just ask Catherine Smith, a senior resident at Campbellstone Retirement Apartments in the Buckhead area of Atlanta, who at age 90 took her first yoga class under my instruction. I became very emotional when Catherine shared her age. I had no idea she was 90 years old; I thought maybe she was 70 at the most. She was so full of energy and willing to learn how to do the poses. She sat in Easy Pose with no problem, willing and eager to go into the next pose upon my instruction. Catherine is an inspiration to all seniors who feel it is too late to learn the practice of yoga. She is also an inspiration to me, as a teacher, to know that even at the age 90, I can help make a difference in the overall health and well-being of an elderly person. The only issue is during meditation they become so relaxed that they tend to nod off...but that is perfectly fine!
