Our Mission

The mission of the SODA Foundation is to become a resource for women Survivors of Domestic Abuse to assist them in rebuilding their life by revitalizing their spirit and renewing their sense of self.

SODA is a "next step up" from victims support groups where women are offered free educational and holistic workshops referred to as "SODA Shops."  These shops are structured to empower women into self-discovery of their value and unique purpose.

A woman who has been in an abusive relationship requires time to heal, reflect and renew, in order to piece back together the remnants of her broken life. Therefore, it is important that she works on her total person, mind, body and spirit, as they all work together as an integrated unit to achieve balance and harmony within herself. Her return to wholeness begins by going within and finding her center where she develops the mental, physical and spiritual strength to embark upon her life's journey with optimism, faith and hope.

As the transformation takes place, like the butterly going through metamorphasis, she breaks free from the emotional bondage that has stifled her personal growth and becomes empowered to live an authentic life.  She spreads her wings far and wide and announces to the world, "It's my time to fly."

Growing up in an abusive household, witnessing my father and then my step-father abuse my mother and my brother,  I knew that was not the norm in a healthy family unit.  I vowed that I would never allow anyone, man or woman, to put his or her hands on me.  I married a man that I thought was the sweetest man I had every met. Little by little he began to become controlling; mentally financially and eventually physically.  After just six months,  I packed my bags and never looked back.   I obtained my MSW and eventually opened my own practice.  I offer my clients a nurturing and compassionate approach while encouraging them to look deep within themselves and discover their unique and special gifts and to recognize that they possess the within themselves what is needed to become healed, whole and healthy.

As a cancer survivor, I know what it’s like to feel afraid for my life and to lose control.  I know what it feels like to have the energy sucked right out of you and feel broken down questioning your purpose in life.  The only difference is, I couldn’t walk away from my affliction, which was a life threatening disease.  A toxic relationship is similar to Cancer; it breaks down every aspect of your wellbeing, physically, emotionally and spiritually like an abuser does.

As an activist for gay rights, my interest in working with victims of domestic violence is in the LGBT community. Too often this population is overlooked, misunderstood and denied equal rights. The constant struggle for equal rights must include laws that protect victims of domestic violence in the same way as heterosexual relationships.

I am an activist, advocate and community organizer. My mission in life is to assist those individuals who are underrepresented in all aspects of their daily existence. My desire is to work with the whole person in regards to navigating through systems and subsystems that may prevent them from reaching, achieving and maintaining the basic needs that most individuals strive to obtain.

Born and raised in Philadelphia, Pa., I am a survivor of sexual and emotional abuse.  I have dedicated myself to work that helps to save the lives of others for the last seven years. Because of my own struggle to rebuild my life after surviving personal abuse and witnessing domestic violence within my own circle of family and friends, I have a determination to “pay it forward” and I have helped to save the lives of troubled teens that have been abused or are being abused.

The S.O.D.A. Foundation has room for two new Board Members.  If you have an interest in serving on the Board of a newly found non-profit such as ours, please contact us.
